There is no "EXPERT" certification that comes with the birth of a child. And no two children are alike. Parenting in the 21st Century is complicated by social media, the growing divergence in parent demographics and the increase in available (and overwhelming) information on child development via the Internet. The pressures of the education system and the college application process are triggering for many young adults and can cause significant impairments in cognitive, emotional and social functioning. Behavioral disorders are both environmental and genetic in origin and require particular parent interventions.
Parenting support is individuated. Often parenting support includes alternating child/parent sessions with the possibility for family therapy.
